The Morning Poem

I didn't get up until half past two in the afternoon today, which is about my preference. I appreciate that for those up five or six hours earlier, that may look like indolence. However, I have good news, in the shape of a poem to take your pain away. It's not mine, but I found it years ago. I notice it's become more popular recently. A copy is here. Here it is (without the ending that I don't like):

"I awoke early one morning,
The earth lay cool and still
When suddenly a tiny bird
Perched on my window sill,
He sang a song so lovely
So happy and so gay,
That slowly all my troubles
Began to slip away.
He sang of far off places,
Of laughter and of fun,
It seemed his very trilling
Brought up the morning sun.
I stirred beneath the covers,
Crept slowly out of bed,
Then gently shut the window,
And crushed his fucking head."
